The first published account of the theorizing that was involved in the development of John M. Keller’s ARCS model is contained in a 1979 publication entitled Motivation and Instructional Design: A Theoretical Perspective. At that early stage, Keller explains his working definition, “motivation is generally defined as that which accounts for the arousal, direction, and sustenance of behavior” (Keller, 1979, p. 29). The emergence of Keller’s model was heavily influenced by a research into a variety of underlying motivational constructs. The theoretical alignment of the original ARCS model is covered more in-depth in the theoretical alignment section. The ARCS model has an official website. This textbook explores the ARCS model.

College Physics is organized such that topics are introduced conceptually with a steady progression to precise definitions and analytical applications. The analytical aspect (problem solving) is tied back to the conceptual before moving on to another topic. Each introductory chapter, for example, opens with an engaging photograph relevant to the subject of the chapter and interesting applications that are easy for most students to visualize.

This text is an informal beginner’s guide to the basics of statistics needed to conduct tests of statistical significance for simple experimental, quasi-experimental, and correlational research designs. Many free and open textbooks exist for more theoretical and traditional versions of introductory statistics, with more standard notation. This one is designed to be consistent with the approachable way I aim to teach the use of statistical analysis tools to students of psychology and the social sciences. The text is very informal and conversational, because it spawned from my written-out scripts to record brief video lessons.

Readers of this book will find information on how to apply their knowledge of psycho-educational assessments to a specialized population – children with multiple, severe disabilities. The specialized assessment skills presented include adaptations for motor, communication, visual, and hearing impairments. Thus, much of the information in this book will also be applicable to children who have specific (singular) impairments in one of these areas. This book provides many suggestions for further education on the topics presented. If you are reading a print version of this book, you may wish to access the electronic version of the book in order to have a direct link to online resources, videos, and articles. This Business Mathematics courses aim to have students understand basic business problems, interpret them in mathematical terms, and use the tools of mathematics to solve these problems. The objective of this material is to provide mathematical theory, demonstration and practice for first-year Business students. A grade of C+ or better in Algebra 11 (or equivalent) is the prerequisite for this course; students requiring extensive review or remedial work are expected to have completed a preparatory course such as OPMT 0199, which is offered through part-time studies at BCIT. These notes explain the applications of basic mathematics to business and industry using ratios, functions and graphs, simple and compound interest, financial instruments and discounting, annuities, mortgages, loans, and leases. Cash-flow analysis applying rates of return, net present value, and payback is included.
