Teaching students about careers--the job search and interview process
by Christy Hanthorn 2 years, 1 month agoPlease share any resources or thoughts on how to best teach our students about career success, starting from the beginning: how to choose a career path, how to determine candidacy and research a company, how to create employment documentation, how to interview, etc.
Hey, Christy!
Although this is not an official "compiled" OER piece, there are some freely available library resources that would serve these needs.
Ferguson's Career Guidance Center - This database allows students to explore industries and careers, plan their education and research best practices for resumes, cover letters, interviewing, networking and salaries/benefits. Includes articles, career advice blogs and streaming video.
Career Coach - Similar to above. Personally, I prefer Ferguson's simply for their layout and accessibility, but databases will provided extended information on careers, required education, median salaries, etc.
Cypress Resume Builder - An awesome, easy to use resume building template!
Learning Express Library - This database saved me during grad school as a late-taker of the GRE :) It provides study materials and practice tests for careers that require licensures, but it also has a career preparation module.
Hope these help!
