TinyMCE Updates in 4.3 MP2

by Janelle Cleaves 1 month, 1 week ago

Hey all,

There are some key additions to the TinyMCE text editor in 4.3 MP2 that I recommend looking into prior to the production release. I've made this document to detail what I've found and my recommendations. Feel free to steal from it. It covers the following:

  1. There will be an integrated AI editor that uses an OpenAI API. You can choose to disable this, but it is enabled by default.
  2. Users can add font and background colors to text, but it has to be set up. I have many accessibility concerns, so I provide recommended settings and color palettes.

Feel free to let me know if you notice any egregious errors in my documentation.

Hi Janelle,

Thanks for the info. I wonder if it only shows if you have OpenAI API tokens?  I followed your steps to change the default for the AI portion, and it does not show in my TinyMCE general settings. I will add that we were having trouble with the ATTO editor about a month ago, I put in a ticket to Open LMS and they changed our default editor to TinyMCE.

Hey Jamie,

That is a great question. The AI Assistant will still show up in the TinyMCE text editor even if you don't have OpenAI set up. If someone tries to use it, it will pop up an error message letting you know the OpenAI plugin has to be set up. I reenabled the AI Assistant to show you what it looks like. Please see below to see the icon and what the assistant looks like when someone attempts to use it without it being configured:

A TinyMCE text editor box with an arrow pointing to the AI Assistant icon.

A TinyMCE text editor box with an arrow pointing to the prompt given to the AI Assistant plugin. Red error text also indicates that the Tiny AI Assistant's credentials need to be set up first.
