Now – with the cells broken apart, the cell contents - including cytoplasm and GFP - are mixed into the buffered solution. The centrifuge again spins out the solids - which are primarily cell debris - and it's the clarified liquid which contains our product – the GFP! This time we discard the solids and keep the liquid – which is now known as Lysate.
